To this end, the group made a diagnosis of the measures that have been implemented, concluding that the problem lies not in the absence of plans, but in their lack of implementation. It also found that there are factors that are too deep-rooted, such as ‘excessive dependence on the car’, the ‘scarcity of urban vegetation’ or ‘poor ventilation in certain areas of the city’.

In this context, a set of recommendations was drawn up, such as:

setting concrete short-, medium- and long-term goals, as well as creating stages and lines of implementation;

encouraging the existence of buildings that have ecological infrastructures, namely those that retain water, generate energy and provide thermal comfort or contact with the public space;

investment in renaturalising the urban space with more native vegetation and green cover;

experimental urban projects and prototypes should be taken into account, and it is suggested that these initiatives be promoted in municipal master plans or that they be tested on a ‘neighbourhood scale’;

design the requalification of infrastructures and buildings in the city based on climate data, so that they are more resistant to the climate of the future.

At the end of the Archi Summit, this set of recommendations was delivered to the Lisbon City Council, with the hope that it will support the implementation of policies and actions for the city.

With this participation BUILT CoLAB is making a further contribution to a more sustainable Built Environment.

Vanessa Tavares Head of Sustainability at BUILT CoLAB was one of the experts invited by Hori-zonte to the multidisciplinary workshop “ReThink Lisboa: Climate & Regeneration Proposal 2030” que decorreu durante o 9º Archi Summit no Hub do Beato.
