In December, BUILT CoLAB concluded its collaboration with ATIC – the Portuguese Cement Association, which aimed to support the development of C2Ø – Construction to Zero, the Decarbonisation Roadmap for the construction sector and associated industrial activities.

Throughout the several months of this partnership, BUILT CoLAB was involved in a range of activities, including content development, communication with stakeholders, capacity-building initiatives, and coordinating the scientific review of the content produced by the project team.

The main outcome of this collaboration was the publication of the Decarbonisation Roadmap, setting out measures and pathways for the sector; the five Sectoral Handbooks, which are technical and strategic tools outlining strategies to support the decarbonisation and climate transition process in each of the sectors targeted by the project; and the Characterisation and Decarbonisation Factsheets for each sector under review.

The Decarbonisation Roadmap is a strategic, analytical and planning document that proposes synergies within the construction sector and associated industries, and contributes to defining the pathways for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This report presents an analysis of the sectors, identifies decarbonisation pathways and proposes trajectories aligned with national decarbonisation targets.

It is also worth noting that BUILT CoLAB organised four training sessions across three different locations (Porto, Coimbra and Lisbon), focusing on the themes of Eco-design, Digital Factories, End-of-Life of Buildings and Life Cycle Assessment Metrics, which formed part of the C2Ø Accelerator. The aim of this Accelerator was to prepare companies in the sectors covered by the Roadmap for the adoption of decarbonisation strategies.

All project information, as well as the C2Ø results, are available on the project website here.

We would like to remind you that C2Ø – Construction to Zero was a joint project between PTPC – the Portuguese Construction Technology Platform – and ATIC – the Portuguese Cement Association, with the support of 3drivers and BUILT CoLAB, and is co-funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU – under the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan.
