BUILT CoLAB provided specialist technical support to the Digital Fabrication Lab (DFL) at the Nuno Portas Study Centre (CENP) of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Porto (FAUP), in the development of a Quality Assessment Platform for Modular Construction Projects, as part of the R2U Technologies project, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

Called MODUS — MODUlar Architecture Rating System, this platform has been developed in response to the current challenges facing the construction sector, with the aim of promoting the green transition through advanced analysis and certification tools. To this end, it assesses modular architecture holistically, taking into account its environmental, social, economic and design dimensions. Through this platform, recognised experts will be able to assess projects and issue certificates, designers will be able to carry out preliminary assessments, and the general public will be able to view and compare projects that have already been certified.

To this end, BUILT CoLAB contributed its specialist expertise in environmental certification, life-cycle assessment and the development of digital platforms, ensuring the technical rigour required for the platform to function effectively. It is hoped that MODUS will help to increase transparency, efficiency and competitiveness in the construction sector, encouraging more sustainable practices and better-informed decisions.
