Applications for the 2024 Sustainability in the Built Environment Award, organised by BUILT CoLAB, are open until 15 September. The aim of this award is to promote and recognise good practices that are already being used in Portugal in the AEC sector, as well as to continue to raise awareness among industry and public institutions of the need for knowledge and innovation in the field of sustainability and circularity in the built environment.

This initiative, now in its second edition, follows on from the work BUILT CoLAB carried out as part of the Circularity in Construction project, which made it possible to diagnose the current state of the issue in Portugal and to realise that the AEC sector needs to be given a boost so that it adopts more and more sustainable measures in the built environment.

The Sustainability in the Built Environment Award thus aims to contribute once again to the discussion of the subject and continue to encourage innovation by showcasing the best practices at a national level, highlighting them and recognising the merit of the entities that implement them. To this end, applications will be judged on their innovation, relevance and contribution to the advancement of knowledge in two categories: Sustainability and Circularity.

The jury is made up of representatives of leading institutions on the subject in Portugal who have contributed to its implementation and evolution at national level: Fernando de Almeida Santos, President of the Order of Engineers, Avelino Ferreira, President of the Order of Architects (to be confirmed), Ana Cristina Carrola, Member of the Board of Directors of APA, Fernando Batista, President of IMPIC, Manuel Reis Campos, President of AICCOPN, Laura Caldeira, President of LNEC, Jorge Nandim de Carvalho, member of PTPC, and Rita Moura, President of BUILT CoLAB (President of the Jury).

Applications run until 15 September 2024, and the winners will be revealed in November (date and place to be announced).

The 2nd Edition of the Sustainability in the Built Environment Award 2024 is an initiative of BUILT CoLAB, a Collaborative Laboratory that focuses on the Twin-Transition of the AEC Sector, with the aim of driving the sector to adopt more sustainable measures in the Built Environment.
