In October, presentations of the Porto Environmental Index were held at AICCOPN, the Northern Regional Section of the Order of Architects, and the Northern Region Order of Engineers, with comments from BUILT CoLAB at the invitation of Porto City Council.
BUILT CoLAB was present at these three sessions with comments from João Moutinho (at OE), Vanessa Tavares (at OA) and Rita Mendonça (at AICCOPN), who reflected, from the perspective of the AEC Sector, on the objectives and potential use of this Index, which aims to be a strategic tool for urban sustainability.
In these interventions, the Environmental Index was recognised as an excellent first step in preparing the city of Porto for future demands in the AEC sector, with the following suggestions: the operationalisation of the Index to facilitate its implementation, the ongoing technical training of municipal designers and technicians, the development of collaborative platforms between the different agents involved and digital tools to support the application and monitoring of the index, and also the implementation of pilot projects to test and improve its functioning in the field, thus reinforcing Porto’s leadership in the sustainable transition.
