BUILT CoLAB develops tools for creating and delivering immersive training content

desenvolvimentos builtcolab sustainable stone

As part of the Sustainable Stone project, BUILT CoLAB has developed two tools that aim to enable the creation and provision of immersive 360º training content, supporting the operation of the Mineral Resources Science Centre in Porto de Mós: EditorRV, standalone software for Windows, and VisualizadorRV, an application for Virtual Reality devices.

EditorRV allows the creation of content for Virtual Reality (VR) environments. To this end, it provides entities wishing to create content with the necessary tools to compose training courses adapted to the VR environment, offering them a simple and effective way to make content available to their trainees.

To this end, a simple and intuitive interface was developed, whose main features allow, through the inclusion and manipulation of previously recorded video and audio files, to link these files together to create a coherent training programme. The correct mapping of the different videos in space allows those attending the training to have the necessary context to change their point of view in a natural and informed way, understanding the spatial relationship between the content presented. In addition, it also allows the integration of interactive elements, such as questions or informative visual highlights, reinforcing the dynamic nature of the training and encouraging the active participation of the trainee throughout the course.

VisualizadorRV, developed using Unity software, enables 360º viewing of the training edited and exported from EditorRV, following the sequence of video files and presenting the questions and information provided by the trainer. In addition, the interfaces of this viewer have been designed to be unobtrusive, so as not to obstruct the trainee’s visibility when viewing the content provided with VR glasses.

This content can then be accessed on the Moodle platform at the Mineral Resources Science Centre, located in Porto de Mós, which BUILT CoLAB is also developing. In this way, the content is accessed and configured for uninterrupted viewing, in an immersive and 360º format, using VR glasses available on site.

This interoperability between the applications developed does not require prior computer knowledge, making the application more accessible for regular use in a variety of contexts.

We would like to remind you that the Sustainable StonebyPORTUGAL Agenda aims to develop innovative products and technologies, new systems for the valorisation of surpluses and by-products, robotic solutions for the entire value chain, new and more sustainable processes, new digitisation processes, and to promote the transfer of knowledge, technologies and human resources training to and from the Natural Stone Sector.

In this context, BUILT CoLAB, as a member of the consortium, has been carrying out various tasks focused on BIM and training for local authorities and the natural stone industry.

We will soon share more information about other developments achieved in this project by the BUILT CoLAB team.
