BUILT CoLAB is the first Built4People Innovation Cluster (B4PIC) in Portugal. The agreement formalising its entry into this network of clusters was signed on 23 September during the Built4People Stakeholder Forum 2024 at the European Convention Centre in Luxembourg, where BUILT CoLAB was represented by the Head of Sustainability, Vanessa Tavares, and the Director, João Moutinho.

This initiative is part of the Built4People (B4P) initiative, which is a partnership between ECTP and the World Green Building Council under the Horizon Europe programme to boost the transition to a people-centred, climate-neutral, sustainable and intelligent built environment. This B4PIC network will help disseminate the values of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) – Beautiful, Sustainable and Together – as well as fulfil the general objectives of B4P – Scientific, Economic and Societal.

B4PIC is a network of Innovation Clusters to improve collaboration between various organisations, countries and disciplines. By leveraging their collaborative ecosystem, expertise and resources, clusters are a vehicle for accelerating the development, adoption and expansion of more sustainable technologies and solutions. The B4PIC cluster network is a powerful accelerator of sustainable innovation in the built environment based on six success factors:

  • the involvement of the entire value chain,
  • to be multi-objective,
  • trans-sectoral nature,
  • have a local anchor but an international reach,
  • to be cross-border,
  • allow access to testbeds and demonstration spaces.

With this signature, BUILT CoLAB undertakes to implement a set of initiatives involving the entire value chain of the construction sector in Portugal and with an international focus, in order to disseminate and promote the adoption of the principles defined by B4P and the values defined in the NEB, towards a more sustainable built environment.
