CommuniCity D-Power

Communicity D-Power responds to the ‘How to increase digital literacy?’ challenge launched by Porto Digital, which aims to improve digital literacy in vulnerable communities by creating immersive and accessible content to support the learning process of essential digital tasks.

To this end, the D-Power pilot will focus on communities with limited digital skills in the parish of Campanhã, in Porto, and will take place in four phases:

  • Identification of the 10 main digital challenges faced by marginalised communities;
    Development of a web application for mobile devices, with step-by-step tutorials and an Artificial Intelligence component to support the choice of content;
    Production of 360º video tutorials, developed in conjunction with community members, accessible via mobile devices or virtual reality glasses;
    Testing the application with the community and collecting suggestions for improving the application and optimising its content.
    This initiative will thus empower the inhabitants of the parish of Campanhã, making digital literacy accessible and fostering their involvement in the community.

Overall, D-Power is intended to enable marginalised communities to navigate digital environments with confidence, based on a scalable and adaptable model.

About CommuniCity

The project has a significant part of its budget allocated to cascade funding and, at three different times, different cities identified challenges that were transformed into competitions for different pilots. BUILT CoLAB won three from the Municipality of Porto (with different entities), D-Power, CoolScape and Minus-E, and one from the Municipality of Matosinhos, Green Lessons.
