BUILT CoLAB was invited to attend the meeting that marked the launch of the second phase of the R2CS – Circular Network for Sustainable Construction work, which took place on 27 May at the premises of Gaiurb in Vila Nova de Gaia and was promoted by two network partners, Gaiurb and the Municipality of Valongo.

In this event, Paulo Fonseca and Marco Pedroso, Executive Director and Head of Sustainability respectively, had the opportunity to share with the audience present the challenges of developing an Action Plan for Circular Economy in the construction sector, as well as the work of gathering information on the current state of the subject in Europe and Portugal, which has been carried out under the Circularity in Construction project.

The event, in a hybrid format, was attended by around 50 people, including representatives of the various municipalities that make up the network and other public bodies, as well as members of Academia and others interested in the subject.

The Network for Circular and Sustainable Construction (R2CS) is one of the four Networks of Circular Cities selected and constituted in summer 2021, oriented in particular to the priority theme Urbanism and Construction and complementarily to the transversal themes Decarbonisation and Public Procurement. This second phase of work will be dedicated to the implementation of the activities, at inter-urban and local level, aiming at the coproduction of the Local Integrated Action Plans (PLAI).

R2CS is led by the Municipal Company Gaiurb Urbanismo e Habitação and has the municipalities of Mangualde, Mértola, Oliveira de Frades, Ponta Delgada, Ponte de Sor, Ribeira Brava and Valongo as partners.
