The new research and innovation framework programme, Horizon Europe – an ambitious research and innovation programme with almost €100 billion for the period 2021-2027 and succeeding Horizon 2020 – is in force since 1 January 2021. Portugal aims to leverage around 2 billion (400,000 more than in H2020). Final work programmes are emerging and the first calls will open as early as May.

The AEC sector, therefore, has here a “golden” opportunity to promote innovation with funding rates between 60 and 100% (depending on the project typology). It is in pillar 2, of Global Challenges and Competitiveness of European Industry, that will be the greatest opportunities for Construction in the clusters “Digital, Industry, and Space” and “Climate, Energy and Mobility”.

Startups will also have great opportunities at the EIC (European Innovation Council) with the European Commission supporting new entrepreneurship projects aimed at society’s major challenges. This will be a great opportunity for the sector to take the path of innovation and sustainable development.

For more information see the 3rd episode of TechOnBuilt, where Luís Maia, ANI’s National Contact Point of Horizon Europe for Cluster 5 “Climate, Energy, and Mobility”, explains how this financing opportunity can help our companies find the path to innovation.
